T Bone Burnett to be inducted to TEC Awards Hall of Fame
Acclaimed artist/producer will be honored by peers at annual gala charity gala in San Francisco, October 3
Walnut Creek, CA — July 23, 2008 — T Bone Burnett, one of American roots music’s most respected and innovative performer/producers, will be inducted to the TEC Hall of Fame at the 24th Annual Technical Excellence & Creativity Awards® on Friday, October 3, at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco. Presented by the nonprofit Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio, the TEC Awards® is the world’s most prestigious forum for recognizing outstanding achievement in professional audio production and product innovation.
The TEC Awards Hall of Fame was post_date in 1988 to recognize those individuals, living or deceased, whose careers have best exemplified the spirit of creative and technical excellence in professional audio. Burnett joins an illustrious list of Hall of Fame inductees, including Geoff Emerick, Quincy Jones, George Lucas, Arif Mardin, George Martin, Sam Phillips, Phil Ramone and a number of other icons of sound and music production.
Joseph Henry ‘T Bone’ Burnett has built an international following as both a peerless performer and producer of groundbreaking records and soundtracks in styles ranging from bluegrass and country to rock and pop. He is nominated for a 2008 TEC Award for Record Production/Album as producer of Raising Sand, the critically acclaimed album by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant.
Burnett first came to prominence in the early 1970s, playing guitar and piano on Bob Dylan’s fabled Rolling Thunder Revue. In the 1980s and 1990s Burnett pursued parallel careers as a performer and producer, releasing several solo albums as well as helming dozens of records, including those by Elvis Costello, Roy Orbison, The Wallflowers, Counting Crows, Los Lobos and Gillian Welch.
The multiple Grammy® Award winner has also worked for the Coen Brothers on The Big Lebowski, serving as musical archivist, followed by his groundbreaking work on the soundtrack to the Coens’ O Brother, Where Art Thou. He was nominated (with Elvis Costello) for an Academy Award for writing "The Scarlett Mountain" for the Oscar-winning Cold Mountain and won another Grammy for his work as executive music producer on the soundtrack to the Johnny Cash biopic, Walk The Line.
In recent years, Burnett has devoted time to his own albums (The True False Identity in 2005 and this year’s Tooth of Crime). In addition to the Robert Plant and Alison Krauss collaboration, Burnett also producedJohn Mellencamp’s Life, Death, Love and Freedom — which marks the debut of the high-resolution ΧΟΔΕ Audio standard, developed by T Bone and his team at Code Resonance.

The 24th Annual TEC Awards will be held on the second night of the 125th Audio Engineering Society Convention and is expected to draw more than 700 top sound and music professionals from around the world. Funds derived from the banquet and ceremony are donated to organizations working to promote safe listening practices including House Ear Institute’s outreach campaign to teenagers and several audio education scholarships.
